Wood Newton

After graduating from the University of Arkansas in the mid-1970s, Wood A. Newton and his wife, Gloria, moved to Nashville to pursue his dreams of writing and performing music.Within three years his arrival, Newton was well on his path to success in the music industry. His achievements as a country music artist and songwriter are legendary in Nashville industry circles.Newton, who portrays Pvt. Sam R. Watkins in "The Soldier's Song," has won numerous awards - including a Grammy Award - and has written numerous hit songs, including Kenny Rogers’ “Twenty Years Ago;” The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Bobbie Sue;” Razzy Bailey’s “Midnight Hauler;” Steve Wariner’s “What I Didn’t Do;” and David Ball’s “Riding With Private Malone."
